West Ham handed Lucas Paqueta injury boost

West Ham have been handed a boost with Lucas Paqueta as the Brazilian revealed that his injury isn’t too serious and that he should be back in action within two weeks.

The Brazilian, who joined the Hammers from Lyon during the summer transfer window, suffered a shoulder injury in the 1-1 draw against Southampton and was forced to miss the game against Liverpool in midweek.

There were fears that Paqueta’s injury could be a long-term one that would see him miss the World Cup, as David Moyes voiced his concerns after the game against the Saints.

He said:

“He has an injury, it’s quite serious at the moment. I am not sure how long it will keep him out.

“He has been a huge player for us recently, he was coming into form and giving us a different type of dynamic in the team. We are really disappointed to lose him.”

However, Paqueta has since allayed any fears about him being sidelined for too long, as he posted an update on Instagram.

The 25-year-old said:

“In West Ham’s last game against Southampton, I had a right collarbone injury. I had an exam today and it was found to have a ligament injury. I’m fine, it was just a scare.

“In the next two weeks I’m back and soon I’ll be on the field with the Hammers.”

Since joining from Lyon, Paqueta has made ten appearances in all competitions, in which he has no goals and two assists, but he is already catching the eye with his ability on the ball.

Paqueta’s performances in the Premier League have seen him average a strong 6.83 rating from WhoScored, which ranks him as the third-best performer in Moyes’ squad, so the Scottish manager will no doubt be delighted that his injury won’t keep him out of action for too long.

How many points did West Ham end the Premier League season with?

If the Brazilian can build on a solid start to life at West Ham and start to produce the goals and assists that saw him labelled as “extraordinary” by ex-manager Peter Bosz during his time at Lyon, then he will surely prove to be a key player for the Irons for the rest of the season.
