West Ham United made it back-to-back Premier League wins with victory over newly-promoted Fulham on Sunday afternoon, with David Moyes' side enjoying a positive week following their initial slow start to the season.

Fresh from edging past Anderlecht in the Europa League Conference in midweek, the Hammers came from behind following an early Andreas Pereira stunner to clinch all three points against Marco Silva's men, with goals from Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio capping what was a fine outing for the hosts at the London Stadium.

One man who somewhat underwhelmed on the day, however, was under-fire midfielder, Tomas Soucek, with the 6 foot 4 colossus having endured a disappointing start to the season in the centre of the park.

The 27-year-old had seemingly been tipped for a departure over the summer following a reported stall in contract negotiations with the Irons, with that uncertainty having perhaps played its part in his recent dip.

The Czech Republic international had previously made a fine start to life in England after joining from Slavia Prague on an initial loan deal in January 2020, notably scoring ten top-flight goals in his first full campaign at the club during the 2020/21 season.

At present, however, the 54-cap gem looks way short of those previous lofty standards with just one goal to his name for this term in the league, with his all-round game having also appeared under-par in recent times.

That was evident in the triumph over the Cottagers, as the £40.5m-rated giant notably lost possession ten times from his 62 touches, while also winning just 40% of his aerial duels on the day, having failed to provide an imposing presence alongside skipper Declan Rice.

The West Ham midfield, as a whole, had been described as "passive" by journalist Joshua Mbu during Sunday's win, with Soucek, in particular, failing to provide more than just an adequate screen in front of the back four, showcased by the fact that he ranks in just the bottom 14% for pressures made among those in his position across Europe's top five leagues.

As the Evening Standard's Malik Ouzia noted, the £67k-per-week man is 'struggling to influence matches, for all he did not do a great deal wrong', before going on to state that the towering titan 'could have done with more after Flynn Downes’ impressive showing in midweek'.

As alluded to above, Soucek's place in the side was already "at risk" heading into that latest triumph - as per The Athletic's Roshane Thomas - as a result of the recent impressive displays of summer signing Flynn Downes, with the 23-year-old having sparkled during the midweek trip to Belgium.

With the former Swansea City man now offering firm competition for his teammate to partner the aforementioned Rice, it could well be time for Moyes to ruthlessly ditch the Czech machine moving forward.
