West Ham United have been handed a potential boost concerning Gianluca Scamacca ahead of this evening's Europa Conference League meeting with FCSB.

What's the latest?

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via football.london), David Moyes suggested that, despite having only returned to training this week after recovering from an illness that saw him miss West Ham's last two fixtures, the 23-year-old could be in line for a return to action against the Romanian outfit tonight.

Regarding the current condition of the centre-forward, Moyes said: "He only really started training so I'm going to work towards him getting back [against FCSB] if we can. We hope to get him back but he's really not been well for ten days so if he's fully fit I'd be very surprised but certainly he trained today and he's getting closer to fitness."

Great news for Moyes

While it is true that, following his £35.5m signing this summer, Scamacca has endured something of a stop-start beginning to his career at West Ham, it would nevertheless come as a huge boost to Moyes and his side should the centre-forward be available for selection against FCSB this evening.

Indeed, despite only starting three games in all competitions for the Hammers thus far, two of these came in the Europa Conference League play-off victory over Viborg FF - games in which the Italy international highly impressed.

In the 3-1 first-leg victory over the Danish side, the £35m-rated talent proved a constant threat in attack, completing one dribble, finding his man with three long balls, winning 75% of his duels and scoring the opening goal with a well-taken header - with these metrics seeing the 23-year-old earn a SofaScore match rating of 7.5, the best of any player to feature in the match.

It was a similar story for the striker in the 3-0 second-leg win, in which Scamacca once again completed one dribble, found his man with two long balls, won 67% of his duels and, yet again, opened the scoring for his side with an exceptional near post flick - with these returns seeing the former Sassuolo sensation earn an impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.7.

As such, it is clear to see that, when fully fit and firing, Scamacca is an extremely deadly weapon for Moyes to be able to call upon, leading us to believe that the centre-forward being available for selection this evening would be great news for the 59-year-old manager and his side.
