Journalist and transfer insider Pete O'Rourke has dropped a claim regarding the possibility of West Ham United securing a summer transfer deal for reported target, Hans Vanaken.

What's the talk?

Speaking to Football FanCast, O'Rourke had this to say on the matter. He said:

"I think this one's got a real chance of happening before the window [shuts]. West Ham have made a couple of bids of which have been rejected. The player has stated that he would be interested in a move to the Premier League."

In 344 appearances for his current side, Club Brugge, the 30-year-old has found the net 102 times and provided 73 assists along the way.

As O'Rourke mentioned, West Ham have had an offer of £9.2m with an extra £1.6m declined by the Belgian side.

Perfect for Moyes

Last season saw the midfielder make the joint-highest number of league appearances for Brugge (33) in which he scored 10 goals and delivered eight assists.

To further highlight his attacking prowess, only Charles De Ketelaere (73) had more shots at goal last term than him (62).

Once hailed as a player that has "extraordinary intelligence" by ex-teammate Onur Kaya, Vanaken earned himself an impressive overall performance rating of 7.25/10 from WhoScored for the six games he played in the Champions League last season, which shows just how capable he is at playing at the highest level.

Bearing in mind how David Moyes' side have yet to score a goal in the Premier League this season and are currently at the bottom of the list for their shots on target percentage (18.9%), adding a player like the Belgian to their ranks could be exactly what they need to get them firing and a perfect fit for the manager to help get the team out of the poor run of form they're on.

Now that O'Rourke has shared his confidence at seeing the Brugge star make a move to the London Stadium before the summer transfer window ends, this should then fill a lot of Hammers supporters with excitement at the same time, as the player certainly has the credentials to improve Moyes' side with his attacking talent.

Moving forward, with deadline day looming, the east London club should go all out to get the 30-year-old to the capital and announce as their latest summer signing.
