West Ham United are looking to improve their defensive options ahead of the second half of the season, with David Moyes reportedly keen on bringing Harry Souttar to London in January.

The club have conceded 22 Premier League goals this term and find themselves languishing in 17th place in the table and unless results start to pick up in the new year, Moyes could soon find himself under some serious pressure.

The transfer window could well see a few new faces arrive at the club and with defenders, Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson due to see their contracts expire at the end of the season, adding another centre-back will be of high importance to Moyes.

Imagine Souttar and Aguerd

Souttar could be an excellent signing for West Ham, especially following his exploits at the World Cup with Australia.

The 24-year-old played all four matches for his country as he led them to the last 16 for just the second time in their history and he averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.97.

The 14-cap star made 5.5 clearances, 1.5 interceptions, and 1.0 tackles per match while helping Australia keep two clean sheets and these performances led journalist Jordan Campbell to lavish praise on the defender, saying:

"Big Harry Souttar. An absolute monster of a defender. Huge, quick, can head it, and is also fairly comfortable on the ball."

It’s no wonder he has attracted interest from the Premier League and a move to West Ham could see Moyes' defence improve, especially if he was partnered with Nayef Aguerd.

The Moroccan international – who also shone at the World Cup – has had a torrid time with injury since joining the club in the summer, playing just four times for the club.

His two appearances in the Europa Conference League however are a cause for optimism, averaging a rating of 7.3/10 and keeping one clean sheet, winning 64% of his total duels, and taking 89.5 touches of the ball, suggesting that he wants to constantly wants to be involved in the action even after returning from injury and when he gets 100% fit, Moyes will have a fantastic centre-back on his hands.

By signing Souttar, he can find the perfect partner for Aguerd, and going forward, this could be a scary duo for West Ham that should see them concede less and improve their league position.
