West Ham United: Scott Minto believes there is no chance Antonio leaves

There is no chance West Ham United striker Michail Antonio will be allowed to leave in the January transfer window, Scott Minto has claimed.

What’s the word?

The 32-year-old striker has scored just two Premier League goals in 17 games this season, although just seven of those appearances were starts.

He has been linked with a January transfer to Wolves, as the summer arrival of Gianluca Scamacca has limited his game time, but this would be a surprising move.

West Ham have struggled this season, and currently sit 17th in the league, with relegation a very real threat as things stand.

Speaking on the TalkSPORT Gameday Podcast, Minto was adamant that Antonio would not be allowed to leave, especially to go to a relegation rival in Wolves.

“I’m definitely not having Michail Antonio going to Wolves,” he stated.

“Why would David Moyes let him go to a relegation rival, when Scamacca hasn’t really been on fire anyway?

“The whole point of bringing in Scamacca was to actually help out Antonio, so you’ve got two strikers, and a lot of West Ham fans want to see the two of them playing together, which I think there’s more chance of seeing that, and a change of system, than Antonio being allowed to leave the club, absolutely no chance.”

Wait until the end of the season

West Ham should definitely not let Antonio go in January, despite his lack of goals this season.

He has been an important figure for West Ham over the years, and is a proven Premier League goalscorer as an option for Moyes, even off the bench.

If they let him go without a reliable replacement now, they could be putting themselves in real danger, as well as strengthening a rival.

His contract runs out in 18 months, and given his age, the club could be tempted to sell in the summer if an offer arrives, but they would be taking a serious risk if they choose to let him go now.
