West Ham United have been dealt a huge injury blow concerning centre-forward Gianluca Scamacca.

What's the latest?

According to a report by the Daily Mail, David Moyes is now 'sweating over' the fitness of the 23-year-old striker ahead of the trip to Arsenal on Boxing Day, after the Italy international had to be withdrawn after just 13 minutes of the club's 1-1 friendly draw with Fulham on Saturday as a result of an ankle injury.

Speaking about the centre-forward's knock, assistant manager Billy McKinlay said: "‘He rolled his ankle so we'll see how it looks over the next couple of days."

Bad news

Considering the fact that Michail Antonio is also a doubt for the trip to north London next Monday with a thigh strain of his own, the fact that Scamacca's availability for the meeting with the Gunners is now also questionable is undoubtedly terrible news for Moyes and his side.

With the Hammers already having struggled for goals this season - having hit the back of the net just 12 times this season, the third-worst record in the Premier League - should Moyes' only two natural centre-forwards be ruled out against Mikel Arteta's table-toppers next week, it would not appear to bode well for the Hammers chances of picking up a result.

Indeed, without Scamacca's contributions in the final third, the Irons' would be in a much worse position than they currently find themselves, with the Italian having scored two goals and created one big chance over his 13 Premier League appearances this season, as well as bagging a further four goals over eight domestic cup and European fixtures.

As such, the loss of the £35m-rated talent ahead of the Arsenal fixture would most certainly come as a huge blow for Moyes, with the 59-year-old manager undoubtedly hoping he can end his side's current run of three winless league matches at The Emirates next week - a result that could finally kickstart the Hammers' disappointing league campaign so far this season.
