David Moyes has dropped a worrying update on the condition of West Ham United centre-forward Michail Antonio.

What's been said?

In recent comments cited by The Guardian, the West Ham manager revealed that he is concerned that the 31-year-old's involvement with the Jamaica national side - for whom the striker played three fixtures in seven days over the Premier League's winter break - could prove detrimental to his own team, as the forward is currently the Hammers' only recognised centre-forward.

Speaking about Antonio's international commitments, the 58-year-old said: "He has been away a couple of times now and I've had concerns about it, yes, because it is new to him. It is not something he has been doing since he was 21 or 22 or something like that. Obviously, they are long travels if you're going to Jamaica… they're long journeys to play the games."

Fans will be seething

Considering the fact that Moyes had all 31 days of January to bring a new centre-forward to the London Stadium, the fact that the Irons boss is already complaining about Antonio's involvement with Jamaica is sure to have left Hammers fans seething at the 58-year-old.

Indeed, the fact that the 31-year-old forward has to travel considerable distances to play for his international side is unfortunate, however, should Moyes have successfully managed to get a deal over the line for a new striker at any point in the January transfer window, rather than seeing a flurry of late bids either fall through or simply be rejected out of hand, it would have considerably eased the burden placed on Antonio's shoulders in the second half of the season.

The £10.8m-rated striker's situation with Jamaica is something that the Scotsman was fully aware of during the winter market, and is something that the former Manchester United manager could have quite easily addressed and solved by being much more organised and efficient with his January dealings.

As such, should Moyes be looking for someone to blame for Antonio's fatigue, he should not be criticising the scheduling of the World Cup qualifiers, but rather be taking a long hard look in the mirror.
