West Ham United were dealt a major blow in their quest for a top-six finish on Sunday afternoon as the Hammers were beaten 2-0 away at Brentford as second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney downed David Moyes' side.

It was a major disappointment in West London for the East London outfit, particularly after securing a 1-1 draw against Lyon in the Europa League in midweek as well as important Premier League victories against Everton and Aston Villa in recent weeks.

Despite the talent on display for West Ham, the visitors only managed just one shot on target all game as numerous forwards struggled to make an impact.

It was a particularly disappointing afternoon for Jarrod Bowen, who has been the Hammers' saviour on so many occasions this season.

According to SofaScore, the winger made just 22 touches all game, almost half that of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski's 44. Moreover, the 25-year-old only mustered 13 passes and lost the ball every 2.7 touches.

The Englishman also failed to have a shot whilst winning just one duel and completing one long ball.

There was also little defensive contribution from the wide man too, failing to make a single tackle, interception, clearance or block.

It was very much unlike Bowen who, for the most part, has been a revelation for West Ham this term and has improved massively.

The winger is the Hammers' top scorer with 14 goals in all competitions having scored four more than his nearest competitor Michail Antonio.

Moreover, the Englishman had scored in both of his last two appearances against Everton and Lyon after returning from injury.

It's been mainly in the second half of the campaign where the winger has borne fruit in front of goal, scoring nine of his 14 goals in 2022.

West Ham supporters will be hoping that Sunday's performance against Brentford was a blip with Bowen arguably the Hammers' player of the season who will be vital in the remaining weeks of the campaign.

The East London club travel to France to take on Lyon on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final with the tie evenly poised after the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

Moreover, there are still six Premier League matches to go with the race for a top-six finish incredibly tight with seventh-place Manchester United level on points with the Hammers whilst also having a game in hand.

It's a crunch run-in for the Irons who still have so much to play for and therefore will be desperate for Bowen to continue his fine form over the final weeks of the campaign.
