David Moyes acted impressively in the transfer market this summer to ensure that West Ham United had the squad to fight on both domestic and continental fronts.

After the success of last season, the expectation is naturally higher this time around, and the manager has brought in some excellent additions who should only improve the team.

The likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Thilo Kehrer, Flynn Downes, and Lucas Paqueta are among the eight new arrivals to the London Stadium, but despite these new signings, West Ham have only won once in the Premier League this season.

Moyes did make one significant blunder in the summer market, and that was missing out on former Hull City player Keane Lewis-Potter.

The Irons were linked with a move for the then-Tigers winger during the summer following his performances in the Championship, where he scored 12 goals and registered three assists as he featured in every league game in 2021/22.

The success of Jarrod Bowen, who was signed from Hull for a fee of around £20m in 2020, led to many believing that West Ham could land another talent in a similar mould to the England international. Unfortunately, Moyes missed his chance as the 21-year-old signed for Brentford instead, and this could be a decision that the 59-year-old might regret.

The player has scored 31 goals already in his brief career, an excellent return for a natural winger of 21. Hull youth coach Craig Fagan described Lewis-Potter as a player who is “similar to Hazard”, and the comparisons to the Belgian superstar are clear to see when you examine his statistics.

The Englishman averaged 1.3 dribbles per game last season in the Championship while contributing 1.1 key passes, showing his ability to take on defenders and create chances for his teammates. Hazard is renowned for his dribbling attributes and creative output, setting up 15 goals in the Premier League lone in 2018/19 when he was at Chelsea.

A move to the Premier League always looked inevitable but it may have come as a surprise when he chose Brentford, especially with West Ham securing another season of European football.

With the Irons scoring just three league goals this season, it seems clear that Lewis-Potter would have added an extra attacking dimension to an attack which is struggling to click so far.

If he goes to on be a success at Brentford this term, then he will go down as a player who got away from Moyes and West Ham.
