Daniel Kretinsky's purchase of a minority stake in West Ham United could spell the beginning of the end for GSB's power at the London Stadium...

What's the word?

That's according to The Athletic's football news reporter Matt Slater, who has been covering the story ever since it emerged last month. He answered several questions from supporters in a recent Q&A on the website.

And when asked about GSB's future, he responded:

"I believe that it spells the beginning of the end of their [GSB] period of control, particularly for [David] Gold.

"I think he/his family believe it's time to step back. They may want to retain a few shares for old time's sake but I can see his position shrinking.

"[David] Sullivan is a slightly different position as he is a) richer b) younger and c) his kids absolutely love being involved in football clubs."

Long-term change?

The pair, alongside vice-chair Karen Brady, have controlled the Irons since 2010 but as per Slater, this deal is expected to begin a fresh chapter in east London.

If so, this latest development is sure to leave much of the Hammers fanbase absolutely delighted as frequently they have vented their frustrations at how the club has been run over the past decade.

GSB have been faced with plenty of demonstrations, chants and protests about their leadership over the years, so they must surely welcome the prospect of fresh investment in the club, especially if it means the aforementioned trio will eventually be forced out.

West Ham currently occupy third place in the Premier League and have advanced into the knockout stages of the Europa League, all under the fine control of manager David Moyes.

They are certainly a club on the up and fresh cash injection, whether that's to help debt or the transfer kitty, which is certainly a massive boost and one that should excite fans even more.

All in all, you would struggle to find a single supporter associated with the Irons that would be unhappy with such developments. It's exactly what many have wanted for quite some time.
