That’s according to a report by Media Foot Marseille, who claim that David Moyes’ side have now joined the race for the Paris Saint-Germain centre-back’s signature this summer, with Stade Rennais and SSC Napoli also thought to be keen on a move for the 26-year-old.
The report goes on to state that Luis Campos, the Ligue 1 champions’ director of football, would be willing to part with the Senegal international ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, with Les Parisiens believed to be demanding a figure in the region of €20m (£16.8m) for the defender.
Following his €32m (£29m) move to Paris in the summer of 2019, Diallo has somewhat struggled to hold down a starting spot in the PSG XI, but it seems undeniable that the 26-year-old would make a fantastic addition to Moyes’ options in the heart of his defence ahead of the new Premier League season.
Indeed, over his 22 Ligue 1 appearances for the club in 2020/21, the £16.2m-rated talent more than proved his ability, helping his side to keep nine clean sheets, along with making 1.1 interceptions, 0.7 tackles and 1.5 clearances and winning three duels (at a success rate of 60%) per game.
The £87k-per-week defender also impressed going forwards, registering one assist and creating one big chance for his team-mates, in addition to completing 47.7 passes (at a success rate of 97%), 2.1 long balls and 0.8 dribbles per fixture.
These returns saw the player who former Mainz sporting director Rouven Schroder dubbed “strong in the air and shrewd in the challenge” average an impressive SofaScore match rating of 6.94, ranking him as PSG’s 14th-best performer in the season before last.
As such, with Issa Diop – the West Ham centre-back who was dubbed “shocking” by Jack Rosser earlier this year – being linked with a £20m move to Fulham this summer, Moyes could finally replace the former France under-21 international with a player who appears to be both a cheaper option and an upgrade on the 25-year-old defender. That prospect is sure to delight the London Stadium faithful.
