West Ham United are believed to have held talks regarding a move for Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis, with the Nigerian ace the subject of interest from a handful of Premier League clubs.

What's the word?

According to The Athletic, the Hammers have had 'discussions with key officials' about making a move for the 24-year-old this summer, with the former Club Brugge man looking set to depart following the Hornets' relegation last term.

While the report suggests that the east Londoners' recent capture of Gianluca Scamacca could well influence whether or not the club press on with a move for the Vicarage Road starlet, a deal has certainly not been ruled out at this stage.

David Moyes and co will, however, face competition from across the top flight with newly-promoted Nottingham Forest having recently entered the race for the five-cap gem, while both Everton and Fulham are also said to be in the mix.

Imagine him and Scamacca

Although the arrival of the aforementioned Scamacca could well see plans to sign Dennis shelved by those at the London Stadium, an ideal scenario would see Moyes able to pair the two men together in attack next term, with that set to be a frightening prospect for the rest of the division.

After having been so long reliant on the ever-reliable Michail Antonio - following the exit of Sebastian Haller 18 months ago - having the chance to bring in two new faces to help provide competition in attack would simply be a dream, helping to shoulder the goalscoring burden on the Jamaica international.

While he was unable to keep his side in the division last term, Dennis has already proven he can make an impact in English football, having scored ten goals and provided six assists in an impressive debut campaign at his current side last time out.

Plucked for a bargain fee of just £3.6m from Belgium, the "intelligent" marksman - as described by international colleague Odion Ighalo - proved an instant hit last term, with there no real reason why he cannot slot in just as easily with the Irons.

Equally, his ability to play off the flanks could also see him able to dovetail beautifully with that man Scamacca, with the imposing, 6 foot 5 menace likely to occupy a more central role in attack next term.

Not just a physical brute, however, the Italian giant also has a keen eye for goal, much like his potential future teammate, having netted 16 goals in a breakthrough Serie A campaign at Sassuolo last time out, with that form unsurprisingly catching the attention of Roberto Mancini at international level.

Moyes then has the chance to fashion what would be a hugely exciting little and large combination, with the 5 foot 9 Dennis able to offer that more dynamic presence in and around the colossal figure of Scamacca.

It may seem like a long shot to have both men in the West Ham ranks next term, yet with the Watford sensation reportedly set to cost in the region of 'just' £20m, it is not beyond the realms of possibility.
