West Ham: Dharmesh Sheth drops Gabriel Barbosa update

West Ham United are still interested in a deal to bring Gabriel Barbosa to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Dharmesh Sheth, with the Sky Sports journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that West Ham’s initial offer of an 18-month loan deal with a €30m (£25m) option to buy the Flamengo centre-forward remains on the table.

However, Sheth goes on to state that the Serie A side does not want to lose the 25-year-old this month, although it is believed that the Brazil international is expected to meet with his club on Thursday in order to inform them of his desire to move to England.

In his tweet, the journalist said: “West Ham United offer for Gabriel Barbosa still on the table. Interest remains. 18-month loan + €30m option. Flamengo don’t want to lose him. Player has meeting tomorrow where he will tell club he wants move to England.”

Would Gabigol be a good signing for £25m?

Fans will be buzzing

Considering just how impressive Gabigol has been for Flamengo in recent seasons, in addition to the fact that West Ham desperately need to bring in backup and competition for Michail Antonio this month, it is not difficult to understand why David Moyes is interested in a move for the 25-year-old.

Indeed, over his 18 Serie A appearances in the most recent campaign, the £23.4m-rated man scored 12 goals, registered five assists and created seven big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 3.6 shots and making 1.1 key passes per game.

These returns saw the £49k-per-week striker earn a rather remarkable seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.21, ranking him as his club’s fourth-best player in the top flight of Brazilian football.

How many Premier League goals did West Ham United score in the 2020/21 Premier League season?

The player who Tim Vickery claimed would be a “bombshell” signing for West Ham also highly impressed over his 13 Copa Libertadores outings last season, scoring a further 11 goals, providing four assists and creating five big chances for his teammates, with these returns seeing the centre-forward average an even more astonishing SofaScore match rating of 7.57.

As such, the news that the Hammers’ deal for Gabigol is very much alive is sure to have left the London Stadium faithful buzzing, as the addition of the Brazilian would undoubtedly provide a huge boost to the Irons’ chances of going on and securing a top-four finish in the league come next May.
