By now, we all know West Ham United are quite desperate to add some quality reinforcements to their backline. If some of the reports that have resurfaced lately are to be believed, David Moyes has identified James Tarkowski as the chosen one.
However, sealing the deal for the defender will be easier said than done since Burnley value him quite highly and the whole operation could potentially be too expensive for the Hammers.
Still, there is optimism that a deal could indeed be reached as the Clarets themselves are open to reducing their initial asking price just a little bit. Besides, having sold Grady Diangana to West Brom for a figure around £18m, the Hammers do have some money in the pocket.
According to one of their coaches, Carlton Cole, they should now spend it on Tarkowski. Here’s what he said for TalkSPORT when asked whether West Ham should break the bank for Burnley’s man: “Yes. Listen, I think he’s going to bring a lot of experience. That experience is very, very important.
“We have very good defenders but I think it would be good to add to that just to shore up the back a little bit. And someone like him coming in would be very good for the club to go in the right direction. What we do with the Diangana money is very important for the future of the club.”
Now it will be up to Moyes and the club to muster the funds and go get their man.
Even though it’s really difficult to invest a lot of money into star players in the current climate, West Ham will still have to roll up their sleeves and splash the cash.
After all, they need serious reinforcements for the upcoming Premier League campaign and Tarkowski could be a vital part of their jigsaw.
