West Ham United could be plotting a move to bolster their strike force in the coming window, with recent reports claiming that Salernitana striker, Boulaye Dia, is one of those currently on the club’s radar.
Despite having enjoyed a busy summer of deals, with eight new faces entering the London Stadium, one area that they could do with added protection in with Michail Antonio coming to the twilight of his career is up top.
As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers have identified the powerful forward as a potential solution to their striking issues.
Having signed for Salernitana on loan in the summer, the Senegalese star currently earns £30k per week, and could sign permanently should the club exercise their option to buy.
As such, the Italian outfit could look to entertain that with a mind to sell him on for a profit after he hopefully thrives in Qatar.
Dia has six goals and two assists already in just 13 league games, taking his tally in Europe’s big five divisions to 35. His form this term has helped his side sit comfortably in mid-table after they had narrowly avoided relegation last season.
The 5 foot 9 marksman has more than shown his quality in Italy of late, after struggling to announce himself at Villarreal. He now ranks in the top 13% of forwards in Europe’s big five leagues for assists per 90, and what will please David Moyes even more is that he also sits in the top 17% for interceptions.
A hard-working outlet, perhaps pairing him with summer signing Gianluca Scamacca as a strike partnership could be a stroke of genius from the Scotsman.
Especially with the hulking figure of the Italian, the two could complement one another with contrasting skill sets.
Having won 43% of his aerial duels this season, the 23-year-old should be able to win the knockdowns for Dia in space to then progress his side up the pitch.
Having also scored 16 goals in the Serie A too last season, it would add even more goals to an attack that, when it clicks, will be extremely potent.
Travelling to the World Cup after this weekend’s fixtures, this could mark a fine audition for him to show his talents to prove why the Irons should swoop for him.
