West Ham United are closing in on a deal to bring Duje Caleta-Car to the London Stadium on deadline day of the January transfer window.

What's the talk?

That's according to a claim made by Get French Football News, who revealed in a recent post on Twitter that David Moyes' side are close to agreeing a deal worth a total of €26m (£21.5m) with Olympique de Marseille for the last-minute transfer of the 25-year-old centre-back.

The media outlet went on to state that sources have revealed that West Ham look set to double the Croatia international's £47k-per-week wages upon his switch to East London, meaning the defender will be on a deal worth £94k-per-week with the Hammers.

In their post, the GFFN said: "Talks now very advanced between West Ham & Marseille for Duje Caleta-Car, according to sources contacted by Get French Football News - deal is likely to be €19m + €5m in bonuses, half of which are attainable, other half rely on WHUFC qualifying for Europe. DCC's salary doubled."

Fans will be relieved

Considering how desperately West Ham are in need of a new first-choice partner for Kurt Zouma in the heart of their backline - something which came as a result of the season-ending injury sustained by Angelo Ogbonna - in addition to the fact that earlier reports had suggested the club's move for Caleta-Car was dead in the water, the news that the Irons are now close to agreeing a deal for the centre-back is sure to have left the London Stadium faithful relieved.

Indeed, the £14.4m-rated man very much looks as if he will make an excellent addition to Moyes' current central defensive options, as the Croatian has highly impressed over his 11 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille so far this season.

In the current campaign, the defender has already helped his side keep five clean sheets, as well as making an average of 0.7 interceptions, 1.2 tackles, 1.9 clearances, 68.2 passes and winning 74% of his duels per game.

These returns have seen the 25-year-old average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.15, ranking him as his club's fourth-best performer in the French top flight.

As such, while it has taken a while for West Ham to land a new centre-back this January, should Moyes be able to get a deal for Caleta-Car over the line on transfer deadline day, it will undoubtedly be a signing that will have Irons fans breathing a huge sigh of relief.
