West Ham United are in talks regarding a deal to bring Alphonse Areola to the London Stadium this summer.

What's the talk?

That's according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who revealed in a post on Twitter that the Hammers are "very interested" in the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, and are looking to "close the deal in the coming days."

Aouna continues by stating that the deal West Ham are discussing with PSG is expected to be a "loan with a view to buy," while the 28-year-old shot-stopper is himself aware that he is not a part of Mauricio Pochettino's first-team plans in Paris next season.

Fans will be buzzing

Considering how impressive Areola was while on loan at Fulham last season, as well as the fact that the 36-year-old current West Ham number one Lukasz Fabianski is very much getting towards the twilight of his top-level playing career, the fact that the Hammers appear to be closing in on a deal for the France international is sure to have left fans of the club buzzing.

Indeed, over his 36 Premier League appearances for Scott Parker's side last term, the 6ft 5 'keeper kept nine clean sheets and made an average of 3.2 saves per game, as well as stopping a total of 116 shots over the course of the season.

These returns saw the £15.3m-rated man earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.94, ranking him as Fulham's sixth-best performer in the top flight of English football, an impressive feat when taking into account the Cottagers ultimately suffered relegation back to the Championship.

As such, considering the fact that the man Parker dubbed a "big" player actually bettered Fabianski's seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.84, there is very much an argument to be made that, if Moyes does go on to get a deal over the line for the £75k-per-week shot-stopper this summer, he may not prove to simply be back up for the 36-year-old, but actually be in with a shout of taking the Poland international's spot as the Hammers' first choice 'keeper.

Either way, the addition of Areola would certainly improve Moyes' options in between the sticks next term, something that is undoubtedly good news for the club and have the fans buzzing.
