West Ham: Florian Plettenberg drops Angelino claim

West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Angelino to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Florian Plettenberg, with the Sky Sport Deutschland journalist revealing in a recent post on Twitter that both Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham are keeping an eye on the situation of the RB Leipzig left-back ahead of launching a potential move in the coming weeks.

The reporter went on to state that Brighton could make a move for the 25-year-old in the event that Marc Cucurella seals a move to Chelsea, while David Moyes’ side are thought to be following the situation of the Spaniard closely – although it has been widely reported that Filip Kostic is the 59-year-old’s first-choice target at left wing-back this summer.

In his tweet, Plettenberg said: “News Angelino: Brighton is interested! Could become very interesting if Cucurella will sign at CFC. Would be a great replacement. West Ham follows his situation as well. Hoffenheim hopes for a big scoop via loan.”

Ideal Kostic replacement

While Kostic would undoubtedly represent a fantastic addition to Moyes’ first team squad, with it being reported that the Premier League side are struggling to convince the 29-year-old of a switch to east London, and with just four days remaining before the club’s opening fixture of the season against Manchester City, it would appear wise for the Scot to start considering other options in the position.

And, when taking into account just how impressive Angelino was for Leipzig last time out, the 25-year-old who Archie Rhind-Tutt dubbed “ridiculous” could well be something of a dream alternative to Kostic.

Indeed, over his 29 Bundesliga appearances last season, the £27m-rated left-back was in remarkable form, scoring two goals, registering five assists and creating 11 big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 0.4 shots, making 1.8 key passes and completing 0.5 dribbles per game – with these returns seeing the former Spain U21 international average an eye-catching SofaScore match rating of 7.12.

The £52k-per-week defender also impressed over his 11 appearances in both the Champions League and Europa League last time out, scoring one goal, providing six assists and creating seven big chances for his teammates over both competitions – averaging a SofaScore match rating of 6.82 in the Champions League and 7.17 in the Europa League.

How many points did West Ham end the Premier League season with?

As such, while it is true that Kostic’s returns of seven goals and 15 assists over 43 appearances in all competitions last season slightly betters Angelino’s three goals and 13 assists over 45 fixtures, considering the Spaniard is four years the Serbian’s junior, in addition to the 29-year-old appearing unconvinced of a move to West Ham, the RB Leipzig star would very much appear to be a dream alternative to the Eintracht Frankfurt full-back.
