ExWHUemployee has dropped an update on reported West Ham United transfer target Borna Sosa.

Speaking on a recent episode of The West Ham Way podcast, the club insider revealed that, should Rob Newman fail in his attempts to bring either TSG Hoffenheim's David Raum or Eintracht Frankfurt's Filip Kostic to the London Stadium this summer, the head of recruitment will turn his attention to the VfB Stuttgart left-back.

Regarding the club's interest in the 24-year-old, Ex said: "The final option there is Borna Sosa, the Croatian international who plays in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart. I believe that Raum is the priority, followed by Kostic then by Sosa."

The left-footed Beckham

Considering just how impressive Sosa was for Stuttgart last season, it is not difficult to see why the Croatia international is on Newman's list of left-back targets ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Indeed, over his 28 Bundesliga appearances in 2021/22, the £20.7m-rated talent was in spectacular form for Pellegrino Matarazzo's side, scoring one goal, registering eight assists and creating nine big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 2.2 key passes, 2.5 crosses and completing 1.3 dribbles per game.

These returns saw the £15k-per-week full-back average a quite astonishing SofaScore match rating of 7.26, not only ranking him as Stuttgart's best performer in the league but also as the joint 13th-best player in the German top flight as a whole.

Furthermore, as a result of his impressive haul of assists last time out, the Bundesliga side's sporting director, Sven Mislintat, even went as far as to compare the 24-year-old to David Beckham, stating of the Croat earlier this year: "Borna's said himself that David Beckham is his role model, and I think he has the same qualities."

As such, should the left-footer who Mislintat also dubbed a "weapon" indeed be available for a reported figure of €25m (£21m) this summer, it would appear an extremely wise move for Newman to launch a bid for the six-cap international, as Sosa could well prove to become West Ham's very own Beckham next season.
