West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Jan Bednarek to the London Stadium this summer.

What's the talk?

That's according to Alex Crook, with the talkSPORT reporter revealing on Twitter that, following reports of Aston Villa's interest in the Southampton centre-back, David Moyes is also thought to be keen on a move for the 26-year-old prior to September's transfer deadline.

The journalist went on to state that another unnamed overseas club are also interested in the Poland international, whom Ralph Hasenhuttl is reportedly open to selling this summer, should a suitable offer be made for the defender.

In his tweet, Crook said: "AVFC not the only club with an eye on Bednarek. Believe WHUFC also hold an interest along with an overseas side."

Moyes would love him

Considering just how many issues West Ham have had in the heart of defence so far this season, coupled with how talented a centre-back Bednarek is, it's not difficult to understand why Moyes would be interested in a deal to bring the 26-year-old to east London in the coming weeks.

With Craig Dawson, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna having all missed the opening two fixtures of the Hammers' 2022/23 Premier League campaign due to injury, the 59-year-old has been left with no other option than to field right-back Ben Johnson alongside Kurt Zouma at centre-back.

While the Irons' recent £10.1m signing of Thilo Kehrer will have alleviated the manager's defensive headache somewhat, it is clear to see that greater depth will be required should West Ham wish to secure a third consecutive top-seven finish in the Premier League this season, with Bednarek very much looking to be a fantastic player for Moyes to bring into the club.

Indeed, according to FBRef, the £19.8m-rated talent ranks in the top 6% of centre-backs in Europe's big five leagues and European competitions for interceptions per 90. He also ranks in the top 11% for blocks, the top 12% for clearances and the top 13% for aerial duels won over the past 365 days, proving just how effective the 26-year-old is at the back.

However, it is clear to see that the player who Hasenhuttl dubbed "very aggressive" is also a threat going forwards, with the £20k-per-week defender also ranking in the top 3% of centre-backs for non-penalty goals per 90. This is in addition to the top 25% for shots, the top 28% for xG assisted (xG which follows a pass that assists a shot) and the top 35% for shot-creating actions over the past 12 months.

As such, with it being clear that the 42-cap international is both solid at the back and a danger in attack, it is easy to see why West Ham would be interested in a deal to bring Bednarek to the London Stadium this summer. The Polish centre-back certainly seems to be a player that Moyes would love to have in his squad for the 2022/23 campaign and beyond.
