West Ham United have turned their attentions to a new name this transfer window...

What's the word?

According to 90min, the Hammers have enquired over a potential move for Borussia Monchengladbach and Switzerland star Breel Embolo as manager David Moyes looks to bolster his frontline.

It's thought that the 24-year-old is on an extensive list of targets, with the Premier League outfit understood to have around £30m to spend on a new forward.

The report hints that any move could be a temporary one if the Irons are able to agree on a loan deal with the Bundesliga side.

Bye-bye Yarmolenko?

Embolo is certainly an interesting candidate for Moyes and co to consider, especially if his arrival wouldn't dent the club's transfer war chest, meaning they could effectively bring in another name on top of him to support Michail Antonio.

The Gladbach star was far from inspiring throughout the 2020/21 campaign, scoring only six goals across all competitions but he displayed his versatile qualities by playing anywhere across the front three.

He also put in an impressive showing at Euro 2020 as Switzerland made the quarter-finals, defeating World Cup winners France in the Round of 16. In fact, the £26m-rated dynamo scored their first goal of the tournament against Wales.

Perhaps with Andriy Yarmolenko heading ever closer to the exit door, he'd be a viable and instant replacement.

As per Turkish outlet Haber365, the Ukraine star has agreed on terms with Super Lig giants Fenerbahce ahead of a potential summer switch, meaning the Hammers could get a whopping £115k-per-week off the wage bill in the near future.

Embolo's versatility makes him an intriguing option to not only succeed him at the London Stadium but also provide further backup to Antonio, who is their only senior centre-forward.

He has been tipped as a player that could make an immediate impact in the Premier League for a team like West Ham, too.

"He’s a terrific player with loads of speed. As an addition to the Premier League, I think he’d be amazing. It would suit him down to the ground," claimed ex-Hammers man Don Hutchison on BBC Radio Five Live's Football Daily Podcast. "The club I could see him playing for - West Ham United. He’s a younger Michail Antonio and he would complement him really well with all of those number 10s playing behind him."

Furthermore, Embolo's dribbling ability, explosive pace and power have previously drawn comparisons to Mario Balotelli, who won a Premier League and FA Cup at Manchester City, and that only further reinforces his suitability for the English top-flight.

"He's a player who runs enough upfront for three. That means we don't expect a goal a game from him," once suggested former Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel.

On the above evidence, the Swiss beast would surely be someone that Moyes would surely love - versatile, hard-working and cheap. He should look to replace Yarmolenko with Embolo in this transfer window.
