Weston McKennie: West Ham handed January transfer boost

West Ham United have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit to sign Weston McKennie…

What’s the word?

According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Serie A giants Juventus are prepared to sell the USMNT midfielder in January to help secure a swoop for Monaco sensation Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Irons were linked to the 23-year-old just last month, with Football Insider claiming that the east Londoners were working on a deal to sign him and that talks had already taken place.

And whilst it remains to be seen how much the Old Lady will sell him for, West Ham’s chances have now been bolstered amid this fresh development. McKennie is currently valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt.

Should West Ham swoop for Weston McKennie?

Yes please!

No thanks!

Newman must strike

With the door seemingly open for the Hammers to strike, new head of recruitment Rob Newman must act to deliver an instant masterclass at the London Stadium.

David Moyes may have strengthened his engine room in the summer, signing another Czech Republic star in Alex Kral, but there is certainly room for further additions, especially when you consider the fact that Mark Noble is retiring this campaign.

McKennie is capable of playing in a multitude of midfield roles, which makes him an even more interesting prospect in east London.

“He’s an outstanding talent,” claimed former Schalke boss David Wagner. “In the No.6 or No.8 position he has the mentality, a real working mentality that you need. And he’s brave on the ball as well. He can be one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga.”

Can you name all 10 ex-Hammers? First up... He assisted the first goal at the London Stadium but made only 8 appearances for the Irons, who is he?

The 25-cap American star has averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 1.5 dribbles, 1.3 shots and one key pass every 90 minutes since the 2016/17 season, via WhoScored, and that only emphasises the impact he could have in either penalty box.

Evidently, he can do it all.

Tomas Soucek has been in mixed form so far this season and we’re yet to see much of Kral at all, so there is certainly a place for McKennie in the squad.

Given his ability and experience, he could add a lot to the team and that’s exactly why Newman needs to push to sign him in the upcoming window. It could see his reign kickstarted with a massive bang.

AND in other news, Moyes could have West Ham’s next Glen Johnson in “fearless” 19 y/o gem who’s a “unit”
