An exciting West Ham United transfer claim has emerged this week...

What's the word?

According to ever-reliable club insider ExWHUemployee on 'The West Ham Way' podcast, Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to bolster his playing squad with the addition of a new forward in January.

It's thought that the 'right striker' did not become available during the summer as they searched for additions right across the squad and he is hopeful of solving this ongoing problem during the winter transfer window.

"Moyes has made it very clear that he does think he needs another forward now. He said the right forward didn't become available in the summer but they are hoping that the right forward does become available in January," he said.

Finally?

Indeed, the Irons were linked with pretty much every striker under the sun, though some of the major names moved onto other teams - namely Tammy Abraham, who swapped Chelsea for AS Roma, and Danny Ings, who signed for Aston Villa from Southampton.

It's no secret that the east London outfit are in desperate need of a new frontman to lower the burden on Michail Antonio. The 31-year-old talisman is Moyes' only recognised senior striker at the club.

A worrying prospect for supporters seeing as they remain in all cup competitions and are tied on points with third-placed Manchester City in the Premier League. The Hammers have a real chance of advancing into the Europa League knockout stages and the FA Cup hasn't even gotten underway yet.

Antonio's history with injuries is a worrying prospect because if he faces time on the sideline, for any duration, then West Ham will struggle to keep up this level of performance, especially given the form he's in.

The former Forest ace has scored seven goals and provided four assists in just 11 appearances this term, via Transfermarkt, whilst he also ranks second behind Declan Rice for average WhoScored rating (7.51), so evidently, he is one of the most crucial players at the London Stadium.

Without him, they may struggle in the attack and that is exactly why new head of recruitment Rob Newman needs to find Moyes the 'right' forward addition at the turn of the new year. Should they do so, then the club's fanbase will understandably be overjoyed.

AND in other news, Moyes should unleash West Ham's "clinical" 19 y/o goal machine, he'd save GSB millions...
