Paulo Fonseca is reportedly interested in taking over at Wolves and should the Portuguese manager arrive at Molineux he could reignite Pedro Neto's career.

According to 90min, the 49-year-old Lille boss is keen on a move to the Premier League and would be interested of taking over the Old Gold following the sacking of Bruno Lage last weekend.

Fonseca has been heavily linked with moves to England's top flight in the past, with both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur coming close to appointing him, and Wolves could represent his next opportunity to try his hand in arguably the most competitive league in the world.

The Portuguese manager, who would have an obvious advantage in Wolves' squad due to the sheer number of Portugal internationals at Molineux, is best known for his time at Roma, having managed the Serie A side between 2019 and 2021.

During that time, he mainly lined up with a 3-4-2-1 system, which could be the key to unlocking Wolves' goalscoring potential, with just three Premier League goals to their name this season.

The Old Gold have a number of talented wingers at the club including Goncalo Guedes, Daniel Podence and Neto, but Lage failed to get the best out of them during his time at the club.

When Fonseca was linked with Spurs, Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano discussed his strengths, saying:

“He is perfect in the dressing room and perfect in his relationship with the players, which is something really needed at Tottenham at the moment.

“He likes to play a 3-4-2-1 formation and likes to play with quality and fast players behind the striker."

This suggests that Neto, who undoubtedly has speed and quality, could finally get going again after a difficult start to the new season.

The former Lazio man was labelled a "huge talent" by BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer after starring in a breakthrough season at Molineux, hitting five goals and six assists in the top flight.

Much was expected of the winger last season but an injury ruled him out for the majority of the campaign, and it was hoped that he would return to his best this season as he got back to full fitness.

However, he has failed to contribute a single goal or assist in the top flight this season, averaging a shocking 6.58 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

During Fonseca's time at Roma, the jewel in his crown was attacking midfielder/winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan. During the 2020/21 season, the former Manchester United man hit 13 goals and ten assists in 34 Serie A appearances, which suggests that Fonseca's coaching and tactical set-up helped to get the best out of the Armenian.

Therefore, if Wolves do opt to appoint Fonseca, he could be the man to help Neto get back to his best and realise his obvious potential at Molineux.
