Predicted Wolves XI vs Southampton

Wolves will be looking to pick up their first three points of the Premier League season when they take on Southampton at Molineux on Saturday.

After Allan Saint-Maximin’s late wonder goal denied Bruno Lage’s side all three points at home against Newcastle United, the Old Gold produced a lacklustre performance against Bournemouth in midweek to extend their winless run.

After picking up just three points from their first five fixtures, Wolves currently sit in the relegation places in the Premier League and desperately need a win in front of their home fans on Saturday afternoon.

Will Wolves beat Southampton?

Here is how Football FanCast expects Lage to line his side up against the Saints.

Jose Sa unsurprisingly keeps his place in goal after a second clean sheet of the season against Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Lage is also likely to stick with the same defence that started against Bournemouth and Wolves, with Nelson Semedo and Jonny on either side of Nathan Collins and Max Kilman in the middle.

The game will likely come too soon for deadline day signing Boubacar Traore, although he could make an impact from the bench, as it would be a surprise to see Lage deviate from his Portuguese trio of Matheus Nunes, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves in midfield.

However, after another disappointing performance in the final third, Lage should ring the changes in attack, with new signing Sasa Kalajdzic surely in line to start after Raul Jimenez once again failed to find the net.

Big things were expected from Pedro Neto this season after he recovered from the injury that kept him out for so much of last season, especially after his performances in the 2020/21 campaign, for which he was labelled a “huge talent” by Alan Shearer.

Can you guess which Wolves player scored the most goals in all competitions during the season in question? Let's start with 2010/11...

Unfortunately, he is yet to score or assist this season and deserves to be dropped, so Daniel Podence should come back into the starting lineup after starting on the bench in recent fixtures, with Goncalo Guedes completing the front three.
