Wolverhampton Wanderers have been handed a worrying update on the condition of Pedro Neto.

What's the latest?

Speaking on a recent episode of the Express & Star Wolves Poddy, Liam Keen revealed that, despite initial suggestions that the winger was ahead of schedule in his recovery from an ankle injury, this is in fact not the case, with the 22-year-old still yet to return to training on the grass at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground.

Regarding the current condition of the Portugal international, the journalist said: "I think the suggestion was that he might be ahead of schedule or something like that, but I can confirm that he's not training or anything.

"He's not on the grass, obviously out there and continuing his rehab from the ankle injury, but he's not ahead of schedule as it stands, but he is making good progress. He definitely won't be back for the games coming up."

Huge blow for Wolves

Considering just how important a part of the Wolves side Neto had become following his £18m move to Molineux in the summer of 2019, the news that the forward does not appear to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from injury is sure to have come as a huge blow to Julen Lopetegui ahead of the return of Premier League football later this month.

Indeed, over his 31 top-flight outings in 2020/21 - his last campaign which wasn't heavily disrupted by injury - the £27.5m-rated winger was in sensational form. He scored five goals, registered six assists and created nine big chances for his team-mates, in addition to taking two shots, making two key passes and completing 2.1 dribbles per game.

These returns saw the £50k-per-week talent average a rather astonishing Sofascore match rating of 7.11, not only ranking him as Wolves' second-best performer in the league but also as the joint 42nd-best player in the Premier League as a whole that season, playing a key role in the club securing a comfortable mid-table finish in the league.

As such, the news that the three-cap international does not look likely to be back in time for the Old Gold's meetings against Everton and Manchester United later this month is undoubtedly a huge blow for Lopetegui and his side - especially considering that Wolves are currently bottom in the top-flight standings.
