Wolves have been linked with a move for Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko recently, and the Bosnian could be a huge upgrade on Raul Jimenez in Bruno Lage’s side next season.
According to reports from Italy, the Old Gold, along with Everton and Leicester City, are interested in signing the 36-year-old, who could be set to depart the San Siro after just one season with Inter.
His debut campaign for the Nerazzurri certainly wasn’t an unsuccessful one, though, as he contributed 17 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, emphasising that he still has a lot to offer.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who reportedly earns £153k-p/w at Inter, continued his prolific form from England with the Giallorossi, contributing a superb 118 goals and 55 assists in 257 appearances at the Stadio Olimpico.
Given that Wolves are in desperate need for a reliable goalscorer after a paltry tally of 38 in the league last term, a move for Dzeko makes a lot of sense, and it could make Lage’s side much more dangerous in attack next season.
The 2021/22 campaign saw Jimenez finish as the Old Gold’s top scorer in the Premier League with just six goals, and the Mexican has understandably not been the same player since fracturing his skull in November 2020.
Not only would Dzeko offer more goals than the former Benfica man based on last season’s form, his all-round game appears to be better too.
If we compare Dzeko and Jimenez‘s form in their respective domestic leagues in 2021/22, the former averaged more shots per game (2.4 vs 1.7), won more aerial duels per game (2.3 vs 1.9) and had a higher pass accuracy percentage (72.7 vs 71.8) than the Wolves striker.
Therefore, given Wolves’ need for attacking reinforcements this summer, Jeff Shi should definitely look at signing the “extraordinary” Dzeko (in the words of former Roma boss Eusebio di Francesco), as the Bosnian could represent a huge upgrade on Jimenez in Lage’s side.
