Wolves receive injury boost ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers have received a significant injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

What’s the word?

Bruno Lage revealed that he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park this afternoon, with defender Marcal expected to return after the upcoming international break.

The Athletic’s Wolves reporter Tim Spiers relayed the manager’s comments during Friday’s press conference on Twitter. He wrote: “Marcal still out for Palace game, should be OK after international break,” before revealing that that long-term absentees Pedro Neto, Jonny Otto, Bruno Jordao remain unavailable.

Are you confident of a Wolves win?

Yes, definitely!

Yes, definitely!

No way!

No way!

“Neto is at Compton Park today. Him, Jonny and Jordao are working hard and need more time, Lage says,” Spiers tweeted.

The Portuguese tactician then faced questions over his recent omission of Adama Traore from his staring lineup, claiming that he was simply a victim of squad rotation.

“Lage on Traore: ‘Adama didn’t play the last game but he’s very important for me. I want a strong team, competition.’ Are players OK with that. i.e. rotation? ‘I don’t care if they are or not, it’s the way I want to work,’” Spiers added.

Can you guess which Wolves player scored the most goals in all competitions during the season in question? Let's start with 2010/11...

Lage will be delighted

The news that Wolves have no new fitness worries will leave Lage feeling delighted heading into a tricky test against another in-form outfit in Crystal Palace.

The Midlanders are unbeaten in their last five outings, yet the Eagles have equalled that run and will be buoyant after seeing off reigning Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend.

Similarly, Patrick Vieira revealed that he too has no fresh injury concerns ahead of today’s clash at Selhurst Park, so Wolves can expect to line up against in-form operators such as Conor Gallagher, Odsonne Edouard, Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha.

Therefore, Lage will need as many options available to him as possible, and the 45-year-old will surely be a very happy man to have most of his key players at his disposal. He could also have in Traore a player with a point to prove following his omission against Everton last Monday, and the Spain winger can be lethal when at his best.
