While it is perhaps too soon to write him off completely, Goncalo Guedes' start to life at Wolves has been less than impressive and the Portugal international needs some time out of the team.

The winger joined Wolves from Valencia in a deal worth £27.5m during the summer, with the Old Gold no doubt hoping that he could ease some of the pressure on their struggling attack.

After scoring just 38 goals in the top flight last season, Wolves were perhaps always likely to find it hard in front of goal again this season but a return of three goals in nine games has left the Old Gold in the relegation places.

Guedes was tipped to be an "absolutely fantastic" addition to Wolves' side but his performances so far this campaign have done little to suggest that he will be a success in the Premier League, with no goals and one assist so far.

The 25-year-old has averaged a disappointing 6.30 rating from WhoScored for his performances in the top flight, which ranks him as the 16th-best player in Wolves' side this season, and the worst-ranked player of those to start at least three games.

Saturday's performance against Chelsea was arguably his worst yet, as he registered 12 touches and completed just three passes in the first half before being substituted, with Birmingham Live's Alex Dicken describing him as a "passenger" following the game.

Express and Star journalist Nathan Judah also suggested that Guedes had "one of the poorest displays" he had seen against the Blues, which suggests that he has a long way to go if he wants to win over the Wolves faithful.

In fact, since joining the club, Guedes has managed a measly three shots on target in the Premier League, which means that the Old Gold have paid around £9.2m for each shot on target thus far, which emphasises how poor he has been at the start of his Wolves career.

While Wolves' attacking options are limited at the moment due to injuries, with Pedro Neto, Sasa Kalajdzic and Raul Jimenez all sidelined, the new manager must ensure that Guedes spends some time on the bench, as he will seriously need to improve his performances if he is going to justify his summer price tag.
