Wolves must seize second chance with Lucas Ocampos

Lucas Ocampos is a name that has been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers on a number of occasions over the past few seasons but January could be their best chance yet to sign the Argentinian.

The Old Gold reportedly enquired about signing the former Marseille man earlier this year but he would instead join Ajax on a loan-to-buy deal in the Eredivisie, leaving Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla.

But a reunion could potentially be on the cards for the two in January if reports about Ocampos’ future with the Dutch giants are to be believed.

According to Football Espana, there are whispers that Ocampos could return to Sevilla in January after a lack of appearances for Ajax so far this campaign, and with the winger having already revealed that he is ready for a new challenge, it is suggested that the La Liga side could cut their losses on him.

In 135 appearances under Lopetetgui for Sevilla, the 28-year-old would contribute an impressive 34 goals and 16 assists, so he is surely a favourite of the Spaniard and could definitely be tempted by a reunion in January.

Should Wolves sign Ocampos?

This season has seen Ocampos manage just 114 minutes of action for Ajax, which likely cost him a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad, so it is no surprise that he is keen to leave The Johan Cruyff Arena in January.

Lionel Messi would perhaps have preferred if Ocampos had travelled to Qatar for this year’s World Cup, as he was full of praise for the impact he had with the national side.

“The appearance of Lucas Ocampos was extraordinary for the good of the group,” he once said.

Any player who is highly rated by one of, if not the best player to ever live, would surely be worth bringing to Molineux in January, especially when you consider that Wolves have been linked in the past and Lopetegui already knows how to get the best out of him.

With Wolves struggling so much in front of goal, it is clear that attacking additions are a must, so Wolves must seize this second chance to sign long-term target Ocampos in next month’s window.
