Wolves have been linked with Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi recently, and the Argentine could be the man to solve a glaring issue in Bruno Lage's side next season.

The Ligue 1 champions have reportedly made it clear that the former Inter Milan marksman has no future at the club and are seemingly keen to send him to the Premier League due to the Old Gold's connection with the player's agent Jorge Mendes.

Despite a lack of regular first-team starts for the 29-year-old during his time in Paris, Wolves fans would be unwise to turn their noses up at such a clinical finisher.

He has been behind the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi in the pecking order at the Parc de Princes in recent months but has still managed to contribute 38 goals and 10 assists in 92 appearances for PSG.

Before that, he was one of Serie A's most sought-after strikers, with 124 goals for Inter in 219 appearances, while he was also captain at the San Siro before his departure.

He is still just 29 years of age, and if PSG are desperate to sell him this summer, they may well accept offers below his current Transfermarkt valuation of £19.8m, which marks him out as a potential bargain in today's market.

There is no doubt that Icardi's natural goalscoring instincts could remedy a glaring problem in Lage's side next season, as goals were extremely hard to come by for the Old Gold last term.

Only the relegated trio scored fewer top-flight goals than Wolves in 2021/22 as Lage's side averaged just one goal per game (38), which suggests that attacking reinforcements are a must if they are to progress next season.

If the 46-year-old can add a clinical forward to his ranks at Molineux to build on what is already a resolute defensive outfit, then there seems little reason why Wolves couldn't push for Europe next term.

Considering that Icardi has previously been dubbed "world-class" by legendary defender Giorgio Chiellini, bringing him to Molineux this summer feels like a no-brainer for Old Gold chairman Jeff Shi.
