On the face of it, Wolves fans seem to have every right to be unhappy with how this summer transfer window has gone.

They’ve lost Matt Doherty to Spurs for just £15m, while another of their loyal servants has just departed with Diogo Jota joining Liverpool.

The Midlands club haven’t done all that much in terms of improving their first-team either, splashing £35m on an 18-year-old, who doesn’t look like starting ahead of Raul Jimenez anytime soon, while another £10m has been spent on 18-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever from Liverpool.

These departures and incomings aren’t likely to make Wolves a stronger team for the 2020/21 campaign as they’ve swapped a number of bona fide starters for unproven youngsters, but in recent times Wolves have always been a club with a long-term goal, and they may be shaping up to be a real force throughout the 2020s.

Describing Silva and Hoever simply as young players isn’t doing them justice, and it seems as though their potential is endless, with Silva being nominated for the European Golden Boy award this week, while Hoever has been compared to both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

For years, Wolves fans have sung on the terraces that Nuno had a dream to build a football team, with five at the back and pace in attack.

While that song isn’t meant to be an in-depth view on the ongoings at Molineux, the prophecy is being fulfilled, with Ruben Vinagre and Luke Matheson prepared to have the wing-back roles in Nuno’s back five held down for the next decade, while pacy attackers such as Silva, Adama Traore, Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto are all under the age of 25.

Add into this Hoever’s ability to be a ball-playing centre-back and the youth of Ruben Neves, Wolves could be set to make a real mark on the 2020s.

The dream that the Molineux faithful have been singing about for all this time may be coming true.
