Wolves must finally get rid of Patrick Cutrone this summer, bringing an end to a disastrous three-year spell at Molineux.

Recent reports have suggested that the Italian has been offered to a host of clubs including Rangers as the Old Gold look to recuperate some of the £23m that they spent to bring him to Molineux in 2019.

After some impressive form for AC Milan, then-Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo clearly felt that the striker was worth such a significant outlay. However, in 28 appearances for the Premier League club, he has managed a measly three goals.

Loan spells at Fiorentina, Valencia and Empoli have followed but so far he has been unable to rediscover the form which convinced Wolves to sign him in the first place, and it seems clear that he is never going to cut it in the Premier League.

While Bruno Lage currently has just Raul Jimenez available as an out-and-out centre-forward in his squad at Molineux following the loan exit of Fabio Silva, it would surely be better to cash in on Cutrone now and put the funds towards a new striker ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Rangers' reported interest in the 24-year-old could be the ideal opportunity for Lage to rectify Nuno's £23m mistake, although considering that his market value is now just £3.15m, it looks as if the Old Gold will be making a significant loss on him.

If Wolves are to improve on their woeful record in front of goal from 2021/22, then they need to be targeting a much more reliable forward option than Cutrone.

The Old Gold found the net just 38 times in the top flight last term - with only the three relegated teams scoring fewer - which emphasises the need for attacking reinforcements this summer, and replacing Silva with Cutrone would hardly represent an upgrade for Lage.

Therefore, if Wolves can get rid of the £63k-per-week striker on a permanent deal this summer, rather than potentially losing him for nothing at the end of next season, then they should definitely look to do so as he simply hasn't been good enough at Molineux.
