Wolverhampton Wanderers head into a new era under Julen Lopetegui, with the 56-year-old having a few weeks of solid preparation time with his squad ahead of what is a crucial second half of the season for the Old Gold.

Having won just two of their opening 15 Premier League matches, the Spaniard faces a mammoth task to keep the Molineux outfit in the top flight.

Thoughts turn to the January transfer window, and Lopetegui might be able to ditch the underperforming Hwang Hee-chan in order to revisit a summer move for AS Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder.

Wolves should revisit Ben Yedder move

The South Korean forward has endured a horrible campaign so far in front of goal, scoring zero goals and registering just one assist in 11 league matches.

Since joining Wolves on a permanent deal in January from RB Leipzig, the £56k-per-week  forward has scored a solitary league goal and this form should convince the new manager to replace him with someone who is a bigger goal threat.

The Old Gold were linked with Ben Yedder in the summer alongside Manchester United after the Frenchman endured another strong campaign.

The 32-year-old scored 25 goals and registered five assists in 37 Ligue 1 matches, receiving a WhoScored rating of 7.04 for his troubles and his goal tally was higher than all of the Wolves' attacking department combined last season, showing how poor they were in front of goal.

Ben Yedder has continued his fine from last year into this season, scoring six goals in 13 matches and this is the sort of goalscoring form that Wolves urgently require to lift them from the bottom of the pile.

Journalist Zach Lowy once described the £130k-per-week star as “one of the most underrated strikers of this generation” and having scored 224 goals throughout his club career, plus three for the France national side, this praise is certainly justified.

He wouldn’t attract much fanfare if Lopetegui did bring him to Wolves, however, he would certainly bring goals, and this is something that they desperately seek.
