Wolves journalist Steve Madeley has shared some behind-the-scenes details regarding Adama Traore's current situation at Molineux and what the future may hold for him.

What's the news?

In a recent report for The Athletic, Madeley had this to say on the matter: "The Spanish winger has turned down what Wolves believe was the best contract they could have offered him and there are currently no signs of negotiations restarting.

"As such, a sale this summer would have been preferable to Traore leaving for free when his current deal expires this time next year."

Madeley added: "By far the most likely scenario now is Traore remaining at Molineux this season and departing in the summer of 2023 as a free agent."

Since arriving at Molineux four years ago after signing from Middlesbrough in a deal worth £18m, the winger has gone on to make 154 appearances for the Old Gold across all competitions.

In those appearances, the Spaniard has scored just 11 goals and delivered 18 assists in the process.

Wolves fans will be fuming

The January transfer window saw the winger join Barcelona on loan until the end of the season, where he made 17 appearances and provided four assists before returning to Molineux.

Now that Madeley has claimed that Traore will likely leave Wolves as a free agent next summer, this will surely have lots of Old Gold supporters fuming that not only will they see the player spend another year with the club where he apparently doesn't want to be, but that the Premier League side will then not be able to reap any transfer fee for him next summer.

Bearing in mind how the 26-year-old only scored one goal and failed to provide an assist during the first half of last season, this also isn't likely to fill many Wolves fans with confidence that Traore can be an important attacking figure for the team this time around.

The best thing everyone at Wolves can hope for now is that, unless a decent offer comes in for the player before the current transfer window ends, the Spain international can step up and help Bruno Lage's side to have a strong season by being a regular contributor in front of goal.
