Despite their impressive season so far, which sees them sat in seventh, Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the Premier League's lowest-scoring sides.

Only bottom side Burnley (nine) and 18th placed Norwich City (14) have scored fewer goals than Bruno Lage's side, who have netted 21 goals in 23 games.

Excellent defensive stability has been the key contributor to Wolves' excellent season so far, having conceded just 17 goals in their 23 matches - only runaway leaders Manchester City (14) have let in fewer.

With Raul Jimenez (five) and Hee-Chan Hwang (four) Wolves' top scorers in the league this term, Lage could certainly do with more alternatives in the final third.

The Portuguese manager did arrive at Molineux with other attacking options, particularly Rafa Mir, who was sold to La Liga outfit Sevilla last August.

Having joined the West Midlands club permanently from Valencia in January 2018, the Spaniard never managed to get a proper look in at Molineux, making just four appearances for the first team.

Loan spells at Las Palmas, Nottingham Forest and SD Huesca followed before Wolves received a fee believed to be around £13.7m from Sevilla, having been bought for £1.5m.

It seemed like excellent business at the time, however, the 24-year-old is currently thriving near the top of La Liga.

Mir's Sevilla are second in the Spanish top-flight, four points behind leaders Real Madrid and seven points ahead of third-place Real Betis as well as having a firm grip on their Europa League round of 32 tie with Dinamo Zagreb, having dropped out of the Champions League at the group stage.

As for the Spanish striker though, he has been a significant contributor for Sevillistas Rojiblancos scoring ten goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, seven of which in the league and one in the Champions League.

With an average of one league goal every 195.4 minutes, Mir is scoring way more frequently than either Jimenez or Hwang are at Wolves, with the duo scoring every 346.6 minutes and 248.5 minutes respectively.

Moreover, the 24-year-old is now valued at £33m, according to CIES, making the £13.7m Wolves received seem well below what they could've gotten.

Whilst on loan at Huesca last season, the Spaniard scored 16 goals but couldn't prevent his loan club from being relegated. However, that form was subject to immense praise from the president of La Liga side Celta Vigo Carlos Mourinho, who said:

“He [Mir] would fit in for Celta and many teams because he is a magnificent player. From the time a name is given until something can be done, it is a very difficult route.

“Besides, he belongs to an English team and it is not easy to negotiate with the English club. And on the other hand, he has done very well and surely has many teams behind him.”

It still seems as though Wolves will finish their season strongly, and could well end up in a European place come the end of the season. However, it certainly feels as though they missed a trick with Mir and could've had another useful option in the final third to win the Golden Boys even more points in the league.
