Premier League giants Chelsea are said to be sniffing around a highly-rated Wolverhampton Wanderers winger…

What’s the word?

According to journalist Andreas Korssund, Adama Traore could be set to move to Stamford Bridge, as the winger only has 12 months left on his contract.

He wrote on Twitter: “Adama Traore is a player Chelsea are considering for the RWB position, however no talks have even started with Wolves yet.

“Thomas Tuchel is a huge fan of the player.”

A lack of depth

Although Traore did not enjoy the best of seasons last year, one thing that will worry Bruno Lage is his lack of depth up front.

Raul Jimenez’s nasty knee injury has left them in the lurch, and with Fabio Silva out on loan, the Portuguese manager has been left scrambling for a deputy.

The rumours surrounding the Spaniard had seemingly died down, however, this one will worry Lage as Traore had featured as a central striker before. He is one of few left in the Wolves squad that could come close to replacing the Mexican.

Last season he featured 20 times in the Premier League, and despite only scoring once he still upheld an average SofaScore rating of 7.05.

This is indicative that he is not all about his stats, and that even featuring up front he would still provide a threat worthy of a good rating.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been vocal in his admiration for the winger, suggesting that “The speed of Traore is actually undefendable in moments”.

To earn such praise from one of the best managers in the world is certainly a glowing recommendation and one which should certainly prick the ears of the striker-less Lage.

Also, to rank in the top 1% for dribbles completed suggests that he could just as easily be a threat for defenders through the middle as he usually is out wide.

Although it may seem like Wolves are finally getting rid of a player who has struggled for both them and Barcelona in recent years, it in fact marks the loss of yet another attacking outlet.

That is something that will worry Lage, due to the £46k-per-week earner's experience and unpredictability. He will want to keep hold of the winger, at least until January. Losing him would surely be a blow unless they can bring in more offensive reinforcements.

AND, in other news: Lage could unearth the next Haaland as Wolves plot bid for “generational” £55m talent.
