Wolverhampton Wanderers could finally be set to offload one of their underperforming stars…

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, Everton have made an approach to sign out of favour winger Adama Traore.

With Anthony Gordon continuously linked away from Goodison Park, the Spaniard could come in and add an increased explosivity and strength to that area.

With Bruno Lage clearly not a fan of the winger, this could finally see him axe the Nuno Espirito Santo signing in their seventh permanent exit of the summer.

His time is up

Having been at the club for four years now, Traore has had all the time to turn into the player many thought he should have become.

Blessed with an unbelievable turn of pace and a physique many could only dream of, he had all the physical attributes to dominate the Premier League.

Eight goals and 16 assists in 162 league appearances, plus a stint back at Barcelona where he again failed to find the net is indicative of his time at Molineux. Lacking end product.

With Wolves’ struggles in front of goal following Lage’s switch to a more pragmatic style, he cannot afford wild cards who do not contribute with goals and assists. It is time for him to go.

Journalist Nick Akerman put it appropriately when he labelled the 26-year-old as a “great concept, terrible footballer”.

In just 76 games, Pedro Neto is only five goal contributions off levelling with Traore’s entire tally, having scored nine and assisted ten. A new, efficient generation of winger is being brought into Wolves, and Traore does not fit into that bracket.

He had had his time, and even in the 20 league games he featured in last season for the Old Gold, he created just three big chances and offered an accurate cross percentage of 23%.

Lage has clearly decided that he will play no further part for his side, and in a league where every point can be so precious, he cannot afford to allow this lack of efficiency to earn a starting spot once more.

His time at Molineux is surely up.
