Wolves are “closing in” on Craig Dawson deal

Wolverhampton Wanderers could have a readymade replacement for Willy Boly already lined up…

What’s the word?

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, the Old Gold are closing in on West Ham United defender Craig Dawson.

He issued the following update on Twitter: Craig Dawson closing in on a move to #Wolves after #WHUFC reluctantly agreed to let him go. Hammers are bringing in Jan Bednarek from #SaintsFC as a replacement. “

Boly now seems set for a move to Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.

It’s huge for Bruno Lage

This ever-present stalwart marks a fine addition to Bruno Lage’s squad, which has been crying out for some added steel after a faltering start to the season.

Whilst they have looked toothless going forward, having scored only twice in five games, some added depth and security at the back is integral following the loan exit of inspirational captain Conor Coady and now Boly’s imminent departure.

Is Craig Dawson a good signing for Wolves?

To ensure that goals are not conceded frequently will hopefully breed the confidence to start pushing on and getting a few wins on the board.

Dawson featured an astounding 50 times across the Premier League, Europa League and domestic competitions last season, outlining his longevity and the subsequent reliability that he would bring to Molineux.

At what football club's academy did former Wolves captain Conor Coady graduate from?

The 32-year-old was instrumental at the heart of a Hammers defence which conceded the ninth-fewest league goals last season, only three more than Arsenal.

To add this experience could be invaluable to Wolves, and only last year his form was described as “immense” by Duncan Wright.

Dawson would come to Molineux at a time of instability and could offer what Coady had previously given to the club. He can utilise his leadership qualities and defensive know-how from 238 Premier League appearances to make himself an instant success for Wolves.

If it comes off, it could be a huge signing for Lage, who has clearly been left scrambling for new defenders who can fit into his reformed four-man defensive setup.

Dawson would give Wolves much of what they have lost on and off the field and could be a huge success if he were to continue his form from West Ham with a move to the Black Country.
