Wolverhampton Wanderers could be set to find the perfect Raul Jimenez deputy…

What’s the word?

According to Steve Madeley, the Old Gold are reportedly keeping tabs on the Hwang Ui-Jo.

Fabrizio Romano issued his own update, going as far as to state that a bid has been made for the player's services: “Wolves proposal for Hwang Ui-Jo has been submitted. Negotiations on now with Bordeaux for the striker who’s one of new targets for Bruno Lage.”

With two reputable sources both touting the move, it seems that this could finally be the striker that fans of the Midlands club have craved.

Wonderful signing

With Raul Jimenez having picked up an injury in pre-season, resulting in a lengthy lay-off, Wolves have seemingly been scrambling to find his replacement.

In Ui-Jo, they are guaranteed a certain degree of dependability. Last season for Bordeaux he scored 11 goals and assisted a further two in 32 league games,  a respectable return for the forward.

This dwarfs that of Jimenez’s return, which was a miserable six goals having played two more games.

Also, at 29, the £25k-per-week finisher is at the peak of his powers. Wolves can easily squeeze three good years out of this talent, nurturing Fabio Silva until he is more experienced and ready to take his place as their starting striker.

Being the only player in the last five years to usurp Heung Min-Son as the South Korean footballer of the year is also a wonderful accomplishment well worthy of some praise. Certainly on the evidence of that achievement and indeed his numbers compared to Jimenez, he'd be a wonderful addition.

Indeed, dubbed a “wonderful player to coach” by his manager Jean-Louis Gasset, he also ranks in the 87th percentile for pass completion percentage, showing that he could also link the play up as well as score.

All of this for a Bordeaux side that fell to a disappointing relegation, not only shows that Ui-Jo can perform in a weakened side, but also makes him more available for a potential transfer away from the French side.

Lage clearly sees something in him that makes him worth targeting, and with Wolves desperate to get any striker in, they could do a lot worse than this lethal forward who seems like a wonderful deputy for their missing Mexican.
