Wolverhampton Wanderers are eyeing a £15m move for Genk striker Paul Onuachu this summer in a bid to bolster their attacking options heading into the new season.

According to a recent report in PUNCH Sports Extra, Genk are prepared to sell the player for €18m (£15.2m) after they reached an agreement to sign Faiz Selemani as a replacement.

Wolves are interested in bringing him to Molineux but face tough competition from a host of European clubs including Lazio and Atletico Madrid.

The report states that the Nigerian is keen on moving to either the Premier League or LaLiga, so the Old Gold are in a good position to secure his signature.

The 28-year-old made 35 appearances in the Belgian Pro League last season and scored an impressive 21 goals, so if he were to replicate that in the Premier League then it would be the perfect investment.

Former professional footballer Josh Fashanu praised the forward in 2021 after he scored for Nigeria saying:

“I want to tell Onuachu well done and a big congratulation because he has proved to everybody that he is still number one and indeed a goal king."

One player he'd be competing with for a spot in the starting XI at Wolves would be Fabio Silva. The Old Gold broke their transfer record back in 2020 to bring Silva to England, but Onuachu is quite evidently better.

The Portuguese striker had a poor campaign scoring no goals in 22 appearances last season, and despite being just 19, he is still nowhere near good enough if Wolves want to progress.

It's not just goal-scoring where Onuachu excels either, he created five big chances compared to Silva who created just one according to SofaScore.

Given the amount they invested, it's unlikely Wolves will axe Silva, but by bringing in Onuachu as healthy competition, it could see them get the best out of both players.

Bruno Lage's side finished in a comfortable position of tenth last season, but supporters will be hoping that they can soon get back to their successes of competing in Europe.

They reached the semi-final of the Europa League back in 2020 but haven't qualified for any European competition since.

In fairness, they have lost star players including Diogo Jota who moved to Liverpool that summer, but the next step for Lage is to push to get into the top seven.

Thus, Onuachu can give them the goals they need in order to achieve that.
