Wolverhampton Wanderers are plotting a move for £36m-rated Portuguese winger Gonçalo Guedes who has been described as a "special talent" by the analytics site Between the Lines.

What's the story?

Reports are suggesting that manager Bruno Lage has set his sights on the player who they could capture at a much cheaper price due to his contract running down.

The Valencia forward will have one year remaining on his current deal and could be available for £33m according to other claims.

Signing him could be an alternative to making Francisco Trincao's move permanent, he is currently on loan from Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

Guedes would fit in well

It's no secret that Wolves have a strong contingent of Portuguese players, it's partly to do with their recent history with mega agent Jorge Mendes who has worked closely with the club for a number of years.

Guedes would join his compatriots José Sá, Nélson Semedo, Rúben Neves and João Moutinho amongst others to be linked to Mendes.

Despite their connections in Portugal, his talent is the ultimate reason why Wolves are interested in signing him. He has had a terrific season in Valencia so far registering 16 goal contributions in just 29 games.

Guedes arrived at the Mestalla in 2018 from Paris Saint-Germain for £36m and has since gone on to prove himself as one of the best in La Liga.

The quality of his passing stands out the most with him ranking in the top 10% in the majority of categories including the top 3% for progressive distance and pass completion across Europe's top five leagues.

It won't be long before big clubs are interested in him, so with their connections in mind, now is the chance for Wolves to snap him up.

When you compare him to their current on loan winger Trincao, it's a no brainer as to who the Wanderers should sign permanently.

The 25-year old has scored ten goals more despite Trincao only playing six games less, and when it comes to shot-creating actions, the Valencia star has amassed 37 more this season.

If he comes to the Premier League it will give him an even bigger platform to show his talent, and with all the potential to become a great player, we hope he does make the move to England.
