Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to miss out on LOSC Lille midfielder Renato Sanches.

What’s the word?

That’s according to O Jogo, who claim that Paris Saint-Germain are now closing in on the midfielder's signature.

With Gini Wijnaldum set to leave, PSG are hoping to announce the signing of Sanches this weekend.

Wolves had been reported to hold an interest, but with Christophe Galtier the new manager in Paris, he looks to reunite with his former midfielder.

Lage must move

While it would seem as if Bruno Lage will have his work cut out if he is to steal Sanches away from PSG's clutches this summer, considering just how impressive a talent the Portugal international is, a Wolves deal for the former wonderkid would undoubtedly be one of the club's biggest coups in recent years.

Touted to take the world by storm, the former Golden Boy award winner has had a lengthy spell at the top of the game despite being just 24.

Although he is yet to truly achieve the greatness touted, his recent seasons have suggested he could be on his way to that level.

That would make the capture all the sweeter for Bruno Lage, who would gain a player who is only improving with each season. Having been dubbed an "immense talent" by Hesham Bilal-Hafiz, there is every suggestion that he is heading towards reaching his true potential.

Last season the Portuguese international managed 24 appearances in the league, chipping in with six goal contributions along the way.

He averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.08, outlining him as one of the more consistent performers in the league. This rating was only bested by Sven Botman of his teammates.

His role as the box-to-box midfielder was integral in Lille’s surprise title win in the 2020/21 season, and he could be equally important in helping Wolves make the next step up from comfortable Premier League finishes.

Sanches would offer a completely different dynamic to the midfielders currently at the club, preferring to drive with the ball at pace rather than hurling long passes across the field.

Reportedly available for just £17m, the midfielder ranked in the 98th percentile for progressive passes, the 96th percentile for progressive carries, and the 97th percentile for dribbles completed per 90 over the last 365 days.

A silky midfielder to complement the finesse of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho could be just what Lage needs, and at this extremely reasonable asking price, it represents a no-brainer if they can get a late deal done and sneak him from under PSG's nose.
