This summer could witness a substantial period of change for Wolves.

They have a new manager in Bruno Lage but there are distinct possibilities that he witnesses several players depart.

On the chalkboard

Ruben Neves and Adama Traore have both been linked with a move away from the club but one name who looks certain to leave is Rui Patricio.

The Portuguese is currently playing for his nation at Euro 2020 but once that competition is done and dusted, he is expected to join Jose Mourinho at Roma.

The Old Gold have since been touted with Jose Sa, the Olympiacos goalkeeper and Jorge Mendes client.

That being said, Wolves should consider weighing up an option for one of England’s brightest young talents instead.

Ramsdale to the rescue

One player linked with a move to Molineux in the last few days is Aaron Ramsdale.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has had another turbulent year in the senior game, being relegated for the third time in his short career.

He was relegated from the Football League with Chesterfield during a loan stay in 2017/18 before he was part of the Bournemouth team that went down in 2019/20.

Unfortunately, he was relegation bound again with Sheffield United last term, conceding 63 times, the second-worst record in the division.

That doesn’t bode particularly well for Ramsdale but he’s developed significantly in the final few months of the campaign.

He’s gone from a player with no confidence and authority inside his own area to a young man who’s now in the England squad for the European Championships.

Ramsdale made several mistakes at the beginning of the campaign but turned his form around in quite some style.

The youngster won the Man of the Match award when the Blades kept a rare clean sheet against Everton back in May, producing an eye-catching six saves. Five of those stops came from efforts inside the box too.

He made a further six saves against Crystal Palace before producing a mighty haul of 14 stops in matches against Liverpool and Leeds in February and April.

Those were outings where he earned very specific praise for his displays. Jurgen Klopp commented: “We arrive pretty much alone with the goalie but Ramsdale played an incredible game, few outstanding saves.”

After the trip to Elland Road, Paul Heckingbottom added: “He’s been really impressive last two or three months. He’s really impressed me last three or four weeks as well.”

“We know what type of goalkeeper he is. He’s great to have behind the back lads and allows us to maybe take a few more risk to try and score those goals which have been hard to come by this season.”

With a number of top-drawer performances this side of the New Year, it would appear that his confidence and performances are growing all the time.

Wolves would be foolish to ignore him in their quest to sign a new goalkeeper. He is undoubtedly a man in form.
