Wolves are reportedly considering a move for Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu before the transfer deadline passes later this evening but it could be a disastrous move by Bruno Lage.

What's the word?

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Soyuncu is one name being considered by the Wolves board as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the transfer window closing.

The Turkey international is yet to feature in the Premier League so far this season, despite Wesley Fofana being dropped before his move to Chelsea, which emphasises that Brendan Rodgers simply does not trust him, as his Foxes side continues to struggle in the top flight.

Soyuncu's contract at the King Power Stadium is set to expire at the end of this season, which suggests that he could be a relatively cheap option for the Old Gold, but his performances in recent seasons suggest that Lage should steer well clear.

Would Soyuncu be a good signing?

Last season saw the centre-back make 28 appearances for Leicester in the top flight, for which he averaged a solid, if unimpressive, 6.78 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

The 26-year-old, who earns £45k per week at Leicester, has never been able to rediscover the level of performance he showed in his second season in England when he was named in the Premier League Team of the Year.

A moment against Tottenham Hotspur last season perhaps emphasised Soyuncu's fall from grace, as he was widely criticised after a disappointing tackle which led to a Spurs goal.

Troy Deeney said: “For me, it’s all about desire, if you stop it here, that ball is going towards Soyuncu, this is one of those old school tackles where you clear the ball and you take him out and you say ‘my ball’."

“He doesn't do that, the desire is not there, he tries to chop him and he rolls around. This here for me, is a droppable offence, you’re in the U23s wondering what’s going on for the next week."

Those performances were rife during the campaign as he made one clear error that led to a shot but also gave away two penalties in the Premier League. Furthermore, during his entire top-flight career in England, he has produced three mistakes that have led to a goal for the opposition.

Evidently, he is not the most trustworthy of defenders and isn't someone that should fill the manager with complete confidence.

Although Wolves have lost Conor Coady this summer, they have brought in Nathan Collins as his replacement, and it seems unlikely that Soyuncu would oust either him or Max Kilman from Lage's first team.

Therefore, considering his less than impressive performances in recent seasons, Wolves must look elsewhere if they want a new centre-back before the window closes. It could be a late transfer window howler to bring him to Molineux.
