Wolves: Bruno Lage can end window with a bang by signing Kalajdzic

Wolverhampton Wanderers could end the summer transfer window with a big statement of intent if Bruno Lage has his way.

What’s the news?

Wolves have been in talks to sign Sasa Kalajdzic over the last week or so and it would appear as though they are set to get their man.

David Ornstein revealed on Monday afternoon that a deal had now been agreed with Stuttgart in order to bring the tall forward to Molineux.

He said: “Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement with Stuttgart to sign Sasa Kalajdzic. Fee for 25yo Austria international striker believed to be €18m plus add-ons.”

Lage needs Kalajdzic

With only four goals scored in their opening four Premier League matches, Wolves are majorly struggling in the opposition penalty area, and this stems from last season.

Indeed, the Old Gold only netted 38 times in the league all throughout 2021/22 and it was their solid rear-guard which prevented them from a relegation battle, conceding only 43 goals.

Which club did Wolves loan Willian Jose from in the 2021 January transfer window?

Wolves may well have signed Goncalo Guedes already but he is not a complete number 9 and with Raul Jimenez’s fitness concerns early in the campaign, the addition of Kalajdzic is certainly a wise idea.

The whopping 6 foot 7 titan would be an excellent addition to the Wolves squad, one who would certainly boost their ability to score chances. The Austrian has scored 24 times and registered 12 assists in just 60 matches for Bundesliga side and a move to England will allow him to make the next step up in his development.

His frame unsurprisingly makes him extremely strong in the air, with pundit Marcel Reif claiming he can do “crazy things” airborne.

He won 4.1 aerial duels per match in the Bundesliga last season, which supplements that viewpoint. Meanwhile, 11 of his 24 goals for Stuttgart have been headers, giving wingers such as Pedro Neto and Adama Traore incentive to deliver as many crosses into the box as possible.

Would Kalajdzic be a good signing for Wolves?

The Austrian could add another dimension to the Wolves’ attack with that in mind, as he uses his strapping figure to not only score but create opportunities for teammates. Last season he created six big chances while also playing 1.5 key passes per match, proving he is an all-rounder in attack.

Whatever happens, Lage needs a goal scorer, and for a fee of £15.3m it would surely see them end their transfer window in thrilling fashion should he end up finding the net on a regular basis.
