Wolves have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke recently and the Belgian could help to solve Bruno Lage's attacking issues next season.

What's the word?

According to The Sun, the Molineux outfit are interested in signing the 31-year-old this summer as they look to add to their striking options ahead of the new season.

Fabio Silva has joined Anderlecht on loan, leaving Lage extremely short of strikers ahead of the season opener against Leeds United next month, and the Crystal Palace man has been touted as one potential option for the Old Gold.

Would Benteke be a good signing?

Raul Jimenez has struggled for form since returning from his head injury, and signing a target man such as Benteke could really take the pressure off the Mexican in the air, and allow him to play more as a goal poacher.

The Belgium international hasn't been too prolific in recent seasons but he still has 86 Premier League goals under his belt, having excelled at Aston Villa before spells with Liverpool and Palace.

Given that Wolves managed just 38 goals in the top-flight last season, any attacking reinforcements would be welcome at Molineux and considering Benteke has just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park, he could represent a fairly cheap option this summer.

Despite his lack of goals, the experienced forward is still a serious threat in the air, and was praised heavily by Patrick Vieira last season, as he said:

"It is a plus to have Christian in our team because in the air he is one of the best if not the best in the league. This is a powerful weapon to have in the squad."

If Benteke could bring some of Wolves' wingers into the game with his build-up play, then he could definitely help transform their attack and make Lage's side much more potent going forward.

Therefore, Lage should definitely consider a move for the £120k per week Palace man this summer.
