Wolves were heavily linked with a move for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos during the summer transfer window and it seems as if Julen Lopetegui could reignite the Old Gold's interest in him after the World Cup.

Should the 21-year-old make a big impact in Qatar, it will surely only increase Benfica's asking price further, but given the situation that Wolves find themselves in at the moment, positive January signings are a must.

It was suggested during the summer that Wolves made an offer for the young striker, with Bruno Lage even calling up the striker to tell him that he wanted him at Molineux.

In the end, he would remain with Roger Schmidt's side in the Portuguese Liga, where he has established himself as a key player in both the league and Champions League.

So far this season, Ramos has scored an impressive nine goals and registered one assist in just 11 league appearances, which has helped him to a superb 7.33 average rating from WhoScored.

This alone is more goals than the entire Wolves squad have managed, so it is easy to see why Lopetegui should want to bring him in after the World Cup break, as he looks to turn around a shocking start to the campaign.

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones suggested that Wolves could return for the Benfica forward in January.

He said: “I think Benfica would put a high price tag on him, that’s for sure. But in the January window, he seems like somebody that might be worth testing the water on.”

Considering the injury issues Wolves have struggled with in attack this season, with Raul Jimenez, Sasa Kalajdzic and Pedro Neto all sidelined ahead of winter break, signing a striker will surely be a matter of priority for Lopetegui.

The Spanish boss needs a goalscorer in his side, as midfielder Ruben Neves currently tops the charts with just four goals, and Ramos could provide exactly that.

The 21-year-old was described as "incredibly prolific" by football talent scout Jacek Kulig just two years ago and he is now starting to show that form in senior football, so he could be precisely what Wolves need in January.
