Wolves have not been strangers when it comes to working with agent Jorge Mendes to bring players from his agency Gestifute to the Midlands club over the past few years.

Looking ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window, it seems as though Bruno Lage's side could use their relationship with the super-agent to bring yet another player to Molineux.

What's the news?

According to a recent Twitter post from journalist Jacque Talbot, there is an "agreement in place" with Mendes to "forge a move" for midfielder Joao Palhinha to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer.

The journalist also claimed that the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will be offered the chance to secure his signature.

In a follow-up tweet, Talbot had this to say on the Old Gold's involvement in this potential deal.

He said: "Wolves the most likely, I'm told, but of course, Mendes does have a good relationship with Tottenham's MD Fabio Paratici."

Lage would love him

With 86 appearances under his belt for Sporting and 76 for fellow Portuguese club Braga in which he has managed to score a combined total of 13 goals and provide three assists in the process, the 26-year-old has a decent amount of experience and a clear knack for finding the back of the net, which is something that Wolves could do with this season with just 24 scored in 26 league games.

Take into account how current Old Gold midfielder Joao Moutinho is due to see his contract expire in the summer, Palhinha could be an ideal replacement for the veteran if he were to leave. Like his Portuguese counterpart, he is comfortable in possession and is astute from both a defensive and offensive point of view.

The 26-year-old has racked up a higher average of tackles per game (3.3) than any other player at his current club this season, which is also more than any Wolves midfielder has managed to achieve this season. As a result, the £23.4m-rated gem could make Lage's side even tougher to play and score against despite already boasting an impressive defensive record this term.

Moving forward, taking all of this into account, if Wolves were able to work out a deal with Mendes that would see Palhinha make the move to Molineux this summer, it would surely delight Lage and also lots of fans at the club given what he'd be able to offer the side from a defensive and attacking point of view, especially if Moutinho does leave the Midlands.
